Ediția din 2020 a premiilor Oscar a marcat numeroase premiere, iar pentru prima dată în istorie câștigătorul categoriei ”Cel mai bun film” a fost un lungmetraj străin.

Astfel, filmul sud-coreean ”Parasite”, în regia lui Bong Joon Ho, a câștigat premiul cel mare al Academiei de Film Americane, fiind primul film într-o limbă străină care îl obține.

Joaquin Pheonix a obținut premiul la categoria ”Cel mai bun actor într-un rol principal” pentru modul în care a portretizat personajul ”Joker”, în timp ce Brad Pitt a luat premiul la categoria „Cel mai bun actor într-un rol secundar”, pentru rolul cascadorului Cliff Booth în filmul ”Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” al lui Quentin Tarantino.

Cea mai bună actriță într-un rol principal a fost câștigat de Renée Zellweger pentru rolul său în pelicula ”Judy”, iar cea mai bună actriță într-un rol secundar a fost desemnată Laura Dern, pentru rolul său din ”Marriage Story”.
